A HEALTH scare was triggered at a prison after an inmate contracted Legionnaires’ disease.

He got the potentially deadly lung infection at Albany Prison on the Isle of Wight.

Governors ordered “a virtual lockdown” to find where the bug had originated. Two shower areas and a workshop remain shut.

It is understood the inmate had respiratory problems on January 12, but was not taken to hospital for three days.

He tested positive for water-borne legionnaires’ and was put in intensive care. He is now stable and back in prison.
